WE WON'T BE IN HOLLIS THIS WEEKEND...

... for the FINAL Sunday of the Hollis Flea Market for 2017! The weather is calling for rain by mid-morning and we just don't want to chance everything getting wet. See you in 2018!

HOLLIS RECAP

Sunday was the coldest morning we've had around these parts in quite some time, and despite the fact that the sun came out and warmed things up by mid-morning, the crowd was probably the smallest we've ever seen at the Hollis Flea Market, and that low turnout led to a decent but unspectacular performance. We are considering one more appearance in Hollis before the month is out, on either 10/15 or 10/22, and will of course let you know right here!

FIND US IN HOLLIS THIS SUNDAY!!

We'll be setting up at the Hollis Flea Market this Sunday October 1st! Now that we own a van, we'll be able to bring some bigger and better stuff along, including some great pieces of furniture, like a Hitchcock rocking chair, some small tables, an antique wooden cradle, a high chair, and more! We've also got a good selection of wood and metal crates, a bunch of advertising signs and tins, some old lanterns, and a whole bunch of other great finds. We'll be on-site by 6am in our usual location along the tree line in the center of the field - hope you can make it!

BRIMFIELD SEPTEMBER 2017 - DAY FIVE

Sunday was the final Brimfield day of 2017, and it featured the best weather of the week, with near total sunshine and temps right around 70. We found it interesting that Saturday's crowd seemed to consist primarily of older couples, while on Sunday the balance was skewed towards younger folks and families. We finished off what was a pretty decent show with our typical solid Sunday performance, and also got a little something for ourselves, as we made a big trade with another dealer that added a couple of new World War I posters to our personal collection.
We are grateful to the folks at Hertan's Field who make sure that Brimfield week goes as smoothly as possible, and we look forward to returning in May of 2018 for our fifth springtime show. Our thanks as well to Diane Sturdevant and Sturdy Tents for supplying our tent for the week. We were also very pleased with our newly-purchased Ford Transit Connect LWB Van, which was making its flea market debut. It has turned out to be the perfect vehicle for our needs.
As of this moment, we intend to make a couple of appearances this October at the Hollis Flea Market, possibly as early as Sunday 10/1 - check back here or on our Facebook page for the latest!

BRIMFIELD SEPTEMBER 2017 - DAY FOUR

It took a while for things to get rolling on Saturday, with a lot of lookers but not too many buyers, however, once the 2pm hour arrived, the serious shoppers showed up, and we ended up having one of our best days ever! That performance was greatly helped by the sale of our giant DSP Phillips 66 gasoline sign, but even without that sale, we were happy with our results. Tomorrow is Sunday, the final day of Brimfield for 2017, and we'll be opening by 8am and staying there as long as folks are buying!

BRIMFIELD SEPTEMBER 2013 - DAY THREE

Today was a perfect day for shopping, with temps around 70 and mostly sunny skies, and a lot of people took advantage of the terrific weather by spending some time in Brimfield, leading to a pretty solid turnout. We sold a little bit of everything today, from tins to mirrors to milk glass to advertising and street signs. For Saturday, we again intend to open before 8am, and we will be bringing a nice selection of ephemera along for a one-day only appearance, including several terrific WWI and WWII posters, some old maps, and even a giant cardboard Coke Santa! Find us in Space 36 of Hertan's Field, just steps from Route 20!

BRIMFIELD SEPTEMBER 2017 - DAY TWO

Thursday's early morning clouds had all but disappeared by the time May's opened at 9am, and as the sun appeared and the temps approached 70, Brimfield started to dry out, and the fields began to fill with shoppers. We saw about an average amount of traffic today, and managed to sell a number of nice items, such as a classic Nikon camera. For Friday, we are bringing along a few new goodies, including several more cameras and lenses, and expect to be open for business by 8am.

BRIMFIELD SEPTEMBER 2017 - DAY ONE

It rained overnight, it rained shortly after we arrived around 730am, and it rained VERY hard during the 11am hour, but by the time Hertan's Field opened at Noon today, the rain let up, and shoppers were rewarded with a couple of precip-free hours to search for deals. The crowd had very good taste today, buying many of our choicest pieces, and despite the unfriendly weather, we ended up having our best September opening day ever! We'll be back at it before 8am tomorrow, and as always we invite those of you anticipating the May's opening at 9 to stop on by our tent in SPACE 36 of Hertan's Field beforehand, as we just a few hundred feet down Route 20 from the entrance to May's.

IMPORTANT TRAFFIC NEWS FOR BRIMFIELD 2017

If you are coming to Brimfield this week from the east (i.e. Worcester or Boston) - Route 20 in Brimfield is being paved, and is currently down to only two lanes (one lane per side) from just after the center of Sturbridge (where it usually turns to two lanes on the way in & where the lane drop happens on the way out), all the way into the heart of Brimfield. This may not have much of an effect on the way in, but it will likely lead to significant delays on the way out of town at the end of your day. Use those back roads if you know them!

BRIMFIELD SEPTEMBER 2017 SNEAK PREVIEWS - LIGHTED ADVERTISING SIGNS

Hertan's Field opens for business in just TWO WEEKS, and Lovequist Antiques will be in our traditional FRONT ROW location in SPACE 36 from the grand opening at NOON on Wednesday September 6th right through Sunday September 10th! We've got a lot of great new items and, as is our wont, we'll be running a few "sneak preview" posts until the show kicks off. Since we don't have electricity at our space, and thus can't show these off in all their glory in our tent, let's begin with some of the terrific light-up advertising signs we'll be offering.

BRIMFIELD SEPTEMBER 2017 - WE WILL BE THERE ALL WEEK LONG!

Find us in the FRONT ROW of Hertan's Field, just steps off Route 20, from Wednesday September 6th at NOON right through Sunday September 10th!

A FUN SUNDAY IN HOLLIS

Despite perfect weather in the 70's, there weren't as many dealers as usual at the Hollis Flea Market today, nor were there as many shoppers, but the low turnout did not prevent us from garnering our BEST Hollis results EVER on Sunday! Among our sales were quite a bit of advertising and street signs (no surprise there), a number of old wood and metal milk crates and boxes, an old building plaque, a few pieces of glass, and even an antique box of NOS razor blade packages. We're not sure whether we'll be doing another flea market before Brimfield, and we're also not set on what days we'll be in Brimfield this September, so keep an eye on this page for the very latest.

A HOLLIS RECAP

We got good weather for the Hollis Flea Market this past Sunday, and despite a lighter-than-normal turnout, ended up having pretty good results, as we sold several nice advertising pieces, along with a little bit of everything else. We're got a really busy June on tap, with Red Sox games and concerts and such on our schedule several weeks in a row, so our next flea market appearance will likely be at Todd Farm sometime in late July or early August. We are not yet sure if we will be setting up for the entire Brimfield week in September, and may choose to just be there on the weekend, followed by a late September or early October return to Hollis to close out the season - keep checking back for the latest!

WE'LL BE AT THE HOLLIS FLEA MARKET THIS SUNDAY!!

We'll be setting up at the Hollis Flea Market this Sunday June 4th! Find us along the tree line in the center of the field starting around 5:30am! We'll be bringing advertising, some milk glass, and whatever else we can fit in our cars! The weather is expected to be fine until late in the day, so as long as the rain holds off until then, we'll be there. Hope to see you Sunday!

BRIMFIELD MAY 2017 - DAY FOUR

We got to Brimfield bright and early on Saturday to discover that the shoppers had decided to sleep in a bit, but by mid-morning, the parking lots and fields were filling up quickly. We got extremely lucky that the rainy weather approaching our area was in a very slow-moving front that decided to hang out west of Route 91 for quite some time, and we did not see any raindrops until around 4pm, so that led to another very strong day of sales. In sum, after a somewhat disappointing opening day, we had solid performances Thursday through Saturday, and are pleased with how we did. I'd say that the Wednesday and Saturday crowds were about average, and that the Thursday and Friday crowds were the biggest we've seen in our short Brimfield career.
Our thanks as always go out to David, Jerry, Roger, and all of the folks at Hertan's Field who, in our opinion, run the best show and the tightest ship in Brimfield. Thanks as well to the Sturtevants and Sturdy Tents for our terrific blue-and-white tent, and Juan at U-Haul Moving & Storage in Wilmington for our rental van. We are not yet sure whether we will be doing Brimfield in September, but we do anticipate making a couple of appearances at the Hollis Flea Market this summer, so check back here or on our Facebook page to find out when!
Also, on the off chance that the folks who bought the old metal toy car we were offering happen to read this, please get in contact with us at lovequistantiques (at) outlook (dot) com, as we have something for you guys that was in the box I failed to give you...

BRIMFIELD MAY 2017 - DAY THREE

The parking lot across from May's was nearly full by the time J&J opened at 8am Friday, and by mid-morning, the shoppers who had conquered J&J began to take over Brimfield's every nook and cranny. Someone told us that the usual 10-12 minute trip from 84 to the heart of town took them 2 hours! The massive amount of customers meant that we stayed open until 6:30pm - an 11 hour day - and had very solid results on what is normally a slower day for us.
Saturday will be our last day in Space 36 of Hertan's Field in Brimfield for May of 2017. We normally stay right through Sunday afternoon, but the combination of a wet weather forecast and it being Mother's Day makes it prudent for us to shut things down a day early, and we expect a great majority of our fellow dealers will do the same thing; I think Brimfield will be a relative ghost town come Sunday. We intend to open by 7am Saturday, and will stay fully open as long as the weather allows.

Thursday, May 11, 2017

BRIMFIELD MAY 2017 - DAY TWO

Another impressive turnout led to a very strong day of sales in Brimfield today! One customer bought both the Beacon Penn sign featured in our sneak previews AND the terrific 1952 Robinson Coca-Cola sign we had, another went home with about a dozen great pieces of milk glass, and several other significant sales helped make up for a less-than-stellar opening day and made this one of our best Thursdays ever!
The fall-like weather pattern is supposed to continue into Friday, and we expect to be open well before 8am and stay until about 5pm. On Saturday, we should be open by 730am and hope to get a full day of sales in before the forecast rain puts a damper on things. Because of the expected Mother's Day washout, WE WILL NOT BE IN BRIMFIELD ON SUNDAY, and per the conversations I have had, we fully expect the vast majority of dealers to be leaving on Saturday as well, so we once again urge weekenders to come on Saturday, and come EARLY, to make the most of the day, and we hope that you'll stop by our tent in Space 36 of Hertan's Field while you're in town!

BRIMFIELD MAY 2017 - DAY ONE

The crowds that swarmed Brimfield yesterday returned in force today, as Hertan's Field was packed with shoppers when the opening bell rang at noon, and things didn't slow down until well into the 4 o'clock hour. We were certainly busy, saw a lot of old friends, and sold a lot of smaller items, but didn't have any of those big sales that turn a good day into a great one.
We expect to be open for business well before 8am on Thursday, so be one of the kool kids and stop on by our blue and white striped tent in space 36 of Hertan's Field before you head across to May's for their 9am kickoff. We also plan to be open before 8am on Friday morning, and should open just as early on Saturday as well. Our plans for Sunday are currently in the hands of Mother Nature, and we may choose to close down on Saturday if Sunday's forecast is not promising. We will of course keep you updated right here!

WHERE TO FIND US - BRIMFIELD MAY 2017

Lovequist Antiques will once again be in our traditional FRONT ROW location in SPACE 36 of Hertan's Field when it opens for business at NOON SHARP on Wednesday, May 10th, 2017. We'll be there in our big white and blue striped tent EVERY day of the show, from the opening bell at noon on Wednesday right through Sunday afternoon! During the week, we recommend parking in the lot across the street from the entrance to May's, as it is located right next to Hertan's and is closest to all the major shows. On the weekend, you can also use Shady Lane Parking in the back of Hertan's Field. We'll have daily updates right here Wednesday through Sunday!

BRIMFIELD MAY 2017 SNEAK PREVIEW - ADVERTISING CRATES

Friday, May 5, 2017

BRIMFIELD MAY 2017 SNEAK PREVIEWS - MILK GLASS

We will have dozens of new pieces of milk glass available next week! We bought a couple of sizable collections over the winter, and we're bringing it all to Brimfield, continuing our reputation of having the MOST milk glass of any Brimfield vendor! Pitchers, vases, cake displays, relish trays, and maybe even a butter dish will all be under our tent in Space 36 of Hertan's Field starting Wednesday at NOON.

Wednesday, May 3, 2017

BRIMFIELD MAY 2017 SNEAK PREVIEWS - MIRRORS

We've got so many great old mirrors this year that we're not quite sure how they are all going to fit into our tent! From an antique silver hand-held Danish mirror, to several tabletop brass examples and (as always) a couple of full-sized Syroco Eagle mirrors, we may well have more mirrors for sale than anyone else in Brimfield! Find these and more in SPACE 36 of Hertan's Field starting on Wednesday, May 10th!

Monday, May 1, 2017
